Vienna Architecture - Introduction

Vienna is the capital city of Austria and is located at the eastern end of the country. Famous architects with buildings in the city include (in chronological order) J.M. Olbrich, Adolf Loos, Hans Hollein and Coop Himmelb(l)au.

Key historic Viennese buildings include Stephansdom (St. Stephen's Cathedral), Schloss Belvedere (The Belvedere), Staatsoper (the Opera House) and of course the Museum Quarter buildings. All these buildings can be visited on our Vienna Architecture Tours.

The city is famous for Jugendstil architecture. Key later 19th century / early 20th century Viennese buildings include The Majolikahaus, the Post Sparkasse building and the Secession Building.

Later 20th century Viennese buildings include the Schullin Jewellery shop and Retti candle shop, both by architect Hans Hollein.

Vienna Architecture Walking Tours

Vienna Architectural Tours can focus on traditional buildings, contemporary buildings or both. The Vienna Architecture Tour can be an introduction to the city's main buildings or can be tailored to your group's interests.

Walking Tours of Vienna can involve advice (for an agreed fee) ahead of trips about types and areas of buildings.

We are more than happy to accommodate your needs and interests on our Vienna Architecture Tours.

We can provide information on programme, geographical areas and building types up to a year ahead of your tour. For example a group of architects interested in innovative Viennese housing could be provided with tailored information allowing a tour programme to be agreed prior to their visit to Austria.

Visitors can be met from the airport, their accommodation, or at the starting point of their architectural walking tour.
