Pop-Up Office - 11 Feb 2013
The POP-UP Office is an installation that explores the evolving way in which we work. Using modular units that can be combined in different ways, the result is a workspace that is simultaneously bare bones and tailored to the individual.

Bayview Village Art Gallery - 11 Feb 2013
A void cannot exist without a mass, and the multipurpose art gallery designed by atelier rzlbd is an expression of this realization and a representative of its design philosophy. Located in a shopping mall the gallery explores the challenges of integrating shopping experience with public and private events that promote contemporary art and architecture.

Brentwood Library - 7 Nov 2012
This building has re-opened following a two-year renovation and expansion designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects. The updated library adds 30 percent more public service, collection and staff space configured on a tight site in the suburb of Etobicoke. The form of the original (1955) two-storey east wing is maintained and connects with a three-storey addition by a double-height Reading Room that houses the library’s main book collection and seating areas. Natural lighting is abundant throughout the library and all occupied spaces have windows and outdoor views.

New Toronto House - 16 Oct 2012
The Whale house is another spatial experiment by rzlbd, a monochromic contemporary manifesto that evolves around a central detached box painted in red standing free inside a three storey height foyer. The building appears to have swallowed the box symbolizing the contemplation space inside the spacious jaw of the whale that swallowed Jonah.

Gallery House in Markham - 3 Oct 2012
This Toronto house is a contemporary residential structure that adapts an institutional / commercial typology in that all of the spaces have been aligned and arranged along a galleria. One can imagine that all of the served and servant areas of the house have been plugged in to this empty spine. They then have been stretched out to the north and south where they gain exposures, views and natural light.

An international centre for photographic arts designed to house and exhibit one of the world’s most prestigious collections opens September 29, 2012 in downtown Toronto. The Ryerson Image Centre completes the transformation by Diamond Schmitt Architects of Ryerson University’s School of Image Arts, renovated to accommodate gallery space, curatorial and graduate study centres, state-of-the-art storage vaults and student galleries. The new centre is designed to museum standards of the Canadian Conservation Institute. The windowless former brewery warehouse that housed the school for 50 years is now an open and legible program that engages with the campus and community.

Patio House Toronto - 17 May 2012
Patio House, located in the Nortown area in Toronto, Ontario, is a minimalist two-storey wood structure house, which carefully responds to three major questions: the needs of the residents, the situation of the site, and the environmental concerns. Being located in a corner lot, the building maintains a presentable façade for the residential street while controlling sun exposure from the west.

18 Kiosk - 14 Sep 2011
The particular political and economic context of this project introduced a number of challenges. Our client secured a last minute, long term lease of a large, generic two storey commercial space, but was able to negotiate the change of use and appendage of what would have been the parking garage underneath as additional retail space.
