24 Sep 2009 David Chipperfield Architects' design for the Kunsthaus Zürich extension developed Images © David Chipperfield Architects David Chipperfield Architects' design for the Kunsthaus Zürich extension, won in competition in December 2008, has been developed in line with the jury's recommendations regarding its function within the urban context and its internal organisation. The revised scheme comprises a managed reduction of the building's volume, a more precise position on Heimplatz, greater openness to the extension's surroundings on all four sides and an upgrading of the art garden. The revision addresses all of the recommendations made by the jury. The partners and future clients of the Kunsthaus extension - the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft, the city of Zurich and the Stiftung Zürcher Kunsthaus - have now been presented with a greener and more open scheme. At the end of October the partners will set up a project company. For the city of Zurich, the project is consistent with the overriding political and cultural interests of its urban development department, and is one of the main points on the agenda for the current legislative session. The revised scheme was presented at a press conference at the Kunsthaus Zürich on 24 September 2009. David Chipperfield Architects has won the international competition to design an extension of the Kunsthaus Zürich, the city's modern art museum. The winning design will be presented on 15 December at 10 a.m. during a press conference in the Kunsthaus. All the competition schemes will be on public display in the Kunsthaus from 16 December 2008 to 11 January 2009.
