Skelleftea
2008-
General Architecture
Project currently under construction in Skellefteå in the northern
part of Sweden.

"General Architecture's design for a new headquarter for Skellefteå
Kraft, Sweden's fourth largest energy company, is now under construction.
The twelve story building has a net floor area close to 9.000 m2, and
will be entirely clad in copper cassettes. The new building is connected
to the old head quarter that dates back to the nineteen fifties, from
which it lends its layout modules. This module is then transformed it
to a three dimensional grid that defines the structure of the foor plans
and the facades.
One of the main issues during the design phase was to create an energy
efficient building that is suited for the special climate of northern
Sweden, with cold winters and the permanent sunshine in the summer. This
is achieved by using a load bearing in situ concrete structure with good
capacity for storing both heat and cold, keeping the building's energy
consumption at 80 kWh/m2/yr, well below the stipulated 120 kWh/m2/yr.
The completion of the building is scheduled to late 2009."
General Architecture is an architecture practice based in Stockholm, Sweden,
founded in 2002 and currently employing 7 architects. The practise works
mainly with large scale projects in urban planning, infrastructure and
architecture, and has been awarded in several international architecture
competitions.
