Tarragona Architecture : Historic Catalonian Buildings
Tarragona is a delightful city located on the Mediterranean not far from Barcelona.
The Roman ruins have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Within the town the key remains are the 2nd century ampitheatre which once staged gladiator fights and the remains of a 450m long circus. To the north of the city is a Roman aqueduct, the Ferreres Aqueduct.

However this city on the Costa Dorada has much to offer other than Roman ruins. Set up above the sea there are wonderful views over the Med. The historic city centre is an enchanting warren of medieval streets, leading up the hill to the beautiful cathedral building.

The architecture of Tarragona offers a quiet alternative to the bustle of the Catalan capital, Barcleona.
One of the highlights of the city is the Balcón del Mediterráneo at the south end of the city’s main street, Rambla Nova. There is a delightful café here with Art Deco styling and plenty of outdoor seating where you can take in views of the Mediterranean whilst enjoying an iced coffee or cool glass of lemonade.

Further up the Rambla Nova is the Foro de la Colonia, the Provincial Forum and the National Archaeological Museum.

The beach is well worth a visit. It is a sharp descent down from the town and forms a gracious sandy curve around the bay. There are changing facilities and if you get hungry there are snack bars and ice cream stalls.
