Comann Eachdraidh Sgire a’ Bhac have identified this site for a new heritage centre, a brief that would satisfy a long overdue need for a local meeting place that will conserve and record the local history of the area. It is envisioned that the new construction will be welcoming, friendly and fully accessible to all.

The bothy ruin sits atop an elevated plateau overlooking the Prince’s beach, located some metres below a lay-by on the main road towards the Eriskay – Barra ferry slipway. It was here that, on 23rd July 1745, the young pretender Charles Edward Stuart made first landfall in Scotland, prior to the second Jacobite uprisings.

Kisimul Castle Isle of Barra
One of Scotland’s most iconic castles is to undergo major conservation, archaeological and interpretation work as part of a plan agreed between Historic Scotland and Macneil of Barra. Kisimul Castle of the Isle of Barra is regarded as the most significant medieval castle in the Western Isles. It sits spectacularly on a rock in the bay and is the seat of the Chief of the Clan Macneil and the symbolic home of the Clan around the world. It is of local, national and international significance and one of the most recognised sites in Scotland.

Western Isles Schools Project
Design: 3DReid, Architects
3DReid has won the Design Team Contract for the £55 million Western Isles Schools Project (WISP) in Scotland. The client is Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council). The private sector development partner is Faithful & Gould. This is the first Hybrid PPP procurement project in Scotland, which aims to provide all the best aspects of PPP without the perceived drawbacks. Funding is in the form of a government grant rather than a private investor.
