Scottish Natural Heritage HQ takes Sustainable Building of the
Year prize
Great Glen House, the new headquarters designed for Scottish Natural
Heritage in Inverness by Keppie Design, has won the award for Sustainable
Building of the Year sponsored by Building and Building
Design magazines.
Great Glen House was completed earlier this year by Robertson Property
at a cost of around £13m. It has already achieved the highest
environmental assessment rating 84% ever awarded
by The Building Research Establishment (BRE), the UK s leading
authority on sustainable construction and development. It was also
awarded the accolade of BRE Building of the Year for 2006.
Following the award ceremony, Keppie Director Charles Bell said: Sustainability
is one of the most important issues facing the construction industry.
The combined talents of the Keppie Design team, taking in architecture,
interior design, planning and urban design, have created not only
a beautiful building but an effective and credible response to the
sustainability issue. We are delighted to be recognised in this award.
The innovative building topped an impressive list of entries that
included the Roche HQ building by BDP and The Core at the Eden Project
by Buro Happold and Nicholas Grimshaw.
