SCOTTISH PROPERTY AWARDS WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Friday 4 March 2016 – The best buildings, businesses and teams in Scotland’s commercial property sector have been crowned at the property industry’s largest celebration held in Glasgow last night.
The 3rd annual Scottish Property Awards, the independent programme which celebrates excellence in commercial property, revealed 18 winners across 16 categories with winners spanning the country.
Lairdsland Primary School in Kirkintilloch, 110 Queen Street Glasgow and Quartermile in Edinburgh were among the night’s big winners with prizes also presented to developments in Dumbarton, Aberdeen and Galashiels.
The ultimate award of the night was presented to Drum Property Group for the second year in a row. The Aberdeen-based developer was praised for its continued success at Prime Four and the construction and sale of Annan House in Aberdeen, a development also shortlisted in Deal of the Year.
Also in Aberdeen, The Capitol on Union Street, a joint venture between Knight Property Group and M&G Real Estate collected the prize for City Regeneration Project of the Year. While in Edinburgh, Urban Union collected a City Regeneration Award for Housing for its work at Pennywell Living.
Fiona Morton, Chair of the Scottish Property Awards judging panel, commented;
“Congratulations to all our finalists and winners announced in the 3rd Scottish Property Awards. I know how tough the competition is and how important it is to win. Judging was a terrific opportunity to assess the many great developments going on in our sector across the country and encouraging seeing some really good examples of regeneration, innovative design and excellent sales and marketing.
“The aim of the Scottish Property Awards is to stage a credible and independent competition which promotes the best in commercial property. It is hard work but also immensely rewarding for everyone involved. I hope all the winners make the most of their win and shout it from the roof tops!”
During a packed out and lively event which was attended by over 650 people, there was also a moment for remembrance for the life of the renowned Scottish architect, Gareth Hoskins who tragically died earlier this year. A posthumous award for Outstanding Contribution to Architecture was presented by Chair of the Scottish Property Federation, Mr Chris Stewart. The award was collected by Mr Hoskins’ wife, Dr Sarah Buchanan, after the audience were shown images of his many career achievements in Scotland and abroad.

“It’s important to take time out to review the year’s activities and reflect on the positive contribution made by the commercial property industry to Scottish life. Celebrating talent in design, development and management of commercial property is a vital part of how we project ourselves as a nation to the rest of the UK and beyond. I hope that the winners tonight have been given a new incentive to continue their hard work developing property investment in Scotland and that we continue to raise the standard as an industry each year.”
The Scottish Property Awards was founded in 2012 to run a credible and independent competition which celebrates commercial and public property. Each year an industry judging panel is appointed, which this year reviewed 40 new developments in Scotland currently undergoing construction as part of a national competition.
The decisions were made at an all-day judging session however this year, for the first time, the audience had a chance to choose their own winner for the award, Deal of the Year.
Over 300 votes were received for 6 deals which covered acquisitions and lettings. The most popular candidate was the 15 year pre Let of 70,000 sq.ft to Cirrus Logic achieving 100% pre let status of Quartermile 4 prior to opening in April 2016. The award was presented on stage, collected by representatives of the 4 main businesses involved in the transaction.
The Scottish Property Awards raise funds for the charity ‘It’s Good 2 Give’ currently building The Ripple Retreat – a luxury residential retreat which will be gifted to families with children who have cancer. The 2800 sq. ft. property is located on the shores of Loch Venacher in the Trossachs National Park is now undergoing construction by John Dennis Group and has been designed by award-winning architect, Tony Kettle.
