Scottish Building Regulations

Bombarded by Red Tape
Property professionals - architects, developers, contractors, etc. - are being bombarded with new regulations. Consequently there are plenty of CPD’s and lectures (see Events page) to explain this swathe of bureaucratic flux.

In summary the principal regulations affecting building in Scotland appear to be:-

New Scottish Building Regulations – start 1 May
New CDM Regulations – start 1 April

EU Energy in Buildings Directive – started 4 Jan 2006
Key element: Energy performance certificates for when a building is constructed, sold or rented. [Directive became European Law 5 Jan 2003, but had to be implemented no later than 36 months after it this i.e. by 4 Jan 2006]

Edinburgh only:
CEC: Edinburgh Standards for Sustainable Building - start 1 May
Key element: generation of 10 or 20% of (remaining) energy requirements to be calculated by on site renewable energy generation.
