11 Feb 2009 The Taylor House Prestwick AUSTIN-SMITH:LORD'S PRESTWICK HOUSE RECEIVES ROYAL VISIT Princess Anne has visited a house in Prestwick, Ayrshire, specially designed by architects Austin-Smith:Lord for the needs of a family with two children severely affected by cerebral palsy. Princess Anne The house, designed by Roan Rutherford of Austin-Smith:Lord, was commissioned by Ayrshire Housing for Raymond and Claire Taylor and their twin five-year-old children, Daniel and Callum. Princess Anne, in her capacity as the Patron of the College of Occupational Therapists, visited the family on 20 January and saw what a difference the house has made to their lives. The Taylor house was designed as part of a residential development at Fairway View off East Road in Prestwick which has a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroomed houses. The primary requirement of the bespoke four-bedroom house was for each boy to have his own generously sized bedroom with an en suite shower/bathroom with hoist transfer ability from bed to bathroom all to severe disability standard. Construction of the house began in the summer of 2007, with financial support from the Scottish Government, and the family moved into their new home in May 2008. Austin-Smith:Lord has a longstanding relationship with both Ayrshire Council and Ayrshire Housing and has a track record for building successful and award-winning residential schemes in the county.
