Balintore Castle
Architect: William Burn
Location: north of Loch of Lintrathen, Angus, eastern Scotland, UK
Category: A Listed
Date: 1859
Baronial sporting lodge empty for over 40 years, potentially saved from
dereliction by Angus Council:
The council used its compulsory purchase powers to buy Balintore Castle
from its absentee Far Eastern owners. Ownership has been transferred to
a buyer, who intends to live there and assist restoration.
This Victorian building was commissioned by David Lyon. It has deteriorated
rapidly in recent years.
Balintore Castle has appeared on the Scottish Civic Trust Buildings at
Risk Register since it started in 1990.
