Scottish Architect in the Store: Habitat Edinburgh

Architecture Week Scotland

Would you like the opportunity to receive expert advice and inspiration on how you can transform your home, whilst surrounded by the best in modern furniture design and home accessories?

Following the success of Architect in the Store at Habitat in England during Architecture Week 2002, we are delighted to announce the event is coming to Habitat Edinburgh store as part of Architecture Week 2003.

Architect in the Store is a nation-wide series of architecture and design surgeries which will take place on 21 June from 11am to 5pm at Habitat – the leading interiors and home furnishings retailer – as part of Architecture Week (20-29 June 2003).

Visitors will be offered a half-hour consultation with an RIAS registered architect. In return for their expert advice, participants are asked to give a minimum £10 donation to the charity Shelter Scotland. Donations will help support Shelter’s work with homeless and badly housed people.

Speaking about the event, Tom Dixon, Creative Director at Habitat said, “I am delighted that Habitat is working with the RIAS on this project and that we are also able to support Shelter. Here at Habitat, we aim to encourage our customers to love their homes and Architect in the Store at Habitat may be just the vehicle for inspiring people across the country to begin love affairs with their own personal living spaces. So come with photographs, house plans and your architectural design questions to Habitat Edinburgh. And find out how an architect can transform your home.”
Architect in the Store at Habitat will operate on a first come first served basis, so arrive early to avoid disappointment!

Architect in the Store at Habitat is a joint initiative between the RIAS and Habitat

Architecture Week 2003 is organised and managed by Arts Council England
Architect in the Store at Habitat is taking place as part of Architecture Week, a national celebration of architecture, from 20-29 June 2003. The initiative runs in conjunction with Architect in the House, where architects visit members of the public in their own homes to give a consultation in return for a donation to Shelter.

Shelter Scotland and the RIAS
The partnership between Shelter Scotland and the RIAS has been hugely popular. Thanks to the generosity of RIAS members, the public can now receive expert advice on improving their own home whilst helping someone else to find theirs.
Every year Shelter helps thousands of families and single people who have no home to call their own. Its housing aid centres, rural housing project, families project and Shelterline, a national 24-hour free phone housing advice line offer free, independent guidance to solve housing problems and help prevent people from becoming homeless. These services are funded by donations from the public and organisations like the RIAS.
