LantarenVenster - Architecture Film Festival Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam 2011 6 - 9 Oct LantarenVenster, Rotterdam Fresh movies, cult hits, documentaries, animations and art-house gems: the AFFR screens about 100 very different films and with interviews, bike tours and debates it is by far the most ambitious program ever. The films have one thing in common. Architecture is always the protagonist. For its sixth edition, the AFFR has therefore opted for the most spectacular part of Rotterdam: the new LantarenVenster of architect Álvaro Siza at the Wilhelminapier. Alvaro Siza was here at the opening of the building Alvaro Siza Álvaro Siza Vieira has received the Pritzker award, the Mies van der Rohe award and the RIBA Royal Gold Medal. The ‘New Orleans’ building is his most recent project in The Netherlands. For architecture fans Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) have a pre-program that Friday night about and in presence of Álvaro Siza, architect of ‘New Orleans’, the building LantarenVenster is part of. photos © Ton Hermans, Rotterdam ‘A toast to Álvaro Siza’ took place in LantarenVenster on 5 Nov. The night was hosted by AFFR president Jord den Hollander. Especially for this event, the AFFR edited The Big Siza Quizshow, made a short film about the work and vision of Álvaro Siza’ and performed a live interview with the architect himself about his experiences with projects in the Netherlands. There were also tours through the 'New Orleans' building.
