Our portfolio of work emphasises the diversity of design skills we can offer, from new build and furniture design to landscape and masterplanning. We consciously avoid a prescriptive style, with each project being based upon a rigorous analysis of the clients requirements, the site and the landscape context. Awards Saltire Award 2008 Inverness Architectural Awards 2008 Projects Black Shed, 2 Skinidin, Isle of Skye, Western Isles, Scotland 2009 image © rural design architecture and landscape, scotland The Black Shed is predicated on a desire to characterise development in the North West Coast of Scotland as more than white cottages, and indeed turn attention to the history of agricultural buildings, that are as valuable a precedent as the picture postcard image. The black shed draws deliberately on the agricultural shed as a prototypical form, the deep plan and low pitched roof encloses a simple volume enclosed by rough spruce boards inside and out. Large sliding shutters enclose a lobby, and this gradually opens out with the seasons. Black Shed Wooden House, Milovaig, Isle of Skye, Western Isles, Scotland - image © rural design architecture and landscape, scotland The internal planning is arranged to maximise the potential of the location; the corner window opens up views across the Little Minch to the Uists and Harris. The house is clad in coated norway spruce with corrugated sheeting on the roof. The open plan interior is characterised by the expression of the internal post and beam timber structure. Wooden House Burnside Plockton, northwest Scotland - image © rural design architecture and landscape, scotland In our proposals for an awkward site at Burnside in Plockton, we have explored a new typology for rural housing. The use of two different housing forms - the terrace and the barn - create a form reminiscent of historical rural patterns. A mix of materials, stone, harl, timber, slate and corrugated sheeting further explore the variety of form and commonly found in a highland setting.
