High quality new office, music room and workshops of 2,500 ft2 floor
area are connected to an existing victorian shop. This building forms
the first phase of a mixed use courtyard development replacing a bakery
building on an awkward triangular site situated in a conservation
area.
The design concept is tailored to allow complex construction phasing
in order to enable demolition of the existing workshop premises following
the completion of the new building. The mass of the new building is
broken up into a varied plan and roof geometry to allow it to sit
comfortably along side much smaller residential properties within
a village context. This also creates a performance music room with
no parallel surfaces providing great acoustics for detailed analysis
of instrumental sound across the full tone spectrum.
