Lower Estate, Cotswolds - Competition to design a house, included architects such as Eva Jiricna, Will Alsop, etc. The boat house exhibited at the RIBA and the V&A in 2005 Sutherland Hussey Architects: PR ![]() Lower Mill Estate: image from Sutherland Hussey Architects The Boat House is a contemporary interpretation of those wonderful boat houses usually situated on a man made lake in a designed landscape not dissimilar to the situation created here in Lower Mill Estate. All the living spaces are gathered around a generous outdoor room with overarching giant arbour which provides shade and privacy. A lap pool stretches the length of the house forming an edge to the outdoor deck with the boat launch beneath. The sitting room rests on the deck with an upper terrace above providing a substantial sun deck for the bedrooms. The house is orientated to take maximum advantage of views and sun with the dining space opening onto a morning terrace and the sitting room and deck orientated to the late afternoon and evening sun. The high midday sun will dapple through the arbour from above and reflect through the deck by the gentle lapping of the water below. ![]() Lower Mill Estate: image from Sutherland Hussey Architects Lower Mill Estate, England: Sutherland Hussey - building PR 19.07.05 Lower Mill Estate Boathouse architects : Sutherland Hussey Architecture Competition Modern Architects Sutherland Hussey Architects World Architecture : e-architect - a guide to key buildings across the globe Modern Houses Oxford Buildings Comments / photos for the Lower Mill Estate page welcome: info@e-architect.co.uk Lower Mill Estate - page : adrian welch / isabelle lomholt |
