Helfand Spotlight Series: 23 E 22nd Street by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) Project presentation and reception, 6 Mar 2009, at the Center for Architecture ![]() New York, New York-The Center for Architecture is premiering its Helfand Spotlight Series in the newly renovated storefront Margaret Helfand Gallery. The first project selected for this honor is OMA's tower at 23 East 22nd Street. OMA's first large-scale building in New York City, the 22nd Street tower intended to literally turn the tradition of the stepped tower on its head, canting dramatically over its neighbors. The 23E22 exhibition includes an illuminated building model, a site model, 100 process models, details, and a comprehensive project description. 23 East 22nd Street Section ![]() The newly established Helfand Spotlight Series will highlight competitions, projects under construction, and projects recently completed that will have a far-reaching impact on New York City's built environment. Projects are exhibited as a means of generating public interest as well as presenting in-depth information to the Center's professional audience. This spotlight will be on view until March 18, 2009. Organized by the Center for Architecture and sponsored by Slazer Enterprises. 23 East 22nd Street, Flatiron district OMA ![]() 23 East 22nd Street 536 LaGuardia Place New York, New York 10012 T 212 683 0023 F 212 696 5022 E-mail info@aiany.org About AIA New York Chapter The AIA New York Chapter is the oldest and largest chapter of the American Institute of Architects. We are dedicated to three goals: design excellence, public outreach, and professional development. The Chapter's members include more than 4,000 practicing architects, allied professionals, students, and public members interested in architecture and design. To fulfill its mission, the Chapter sponsors an array of programs, usually held at the Center for Architecture, that explore the role of architects in housing, planning, historic preservation, and urban design among other topics, as well as our annual Design Awards Program for architecture, interior architecture and unrealized projects. In addition, the Chapter publishes a magazine, OCULUS, coordinates 24 committees and works with its charitable affiliate the Center for Architecture Foundation to provide scholarship and educational opportunities for students and the general public.
