In being used as a summer house, and by virtue of the installation of a wine cellar with production surfaces at a later date, the building’s design is oriented by the cubature of the Kellerstöckel (wine house) typical of the Southern Burgenland region. The internal spaces are arranged in the living area in a high ground-floor - above which is positioned the restaurateur atelier - the bedrooms and the service areas arranged on two levels, divided by generations. It is basically a wooden structure with the peripheral balconies in steel. The design is adapted from passive energy principles applied in the world-famous Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto. The concept consists of a 50 m long and a 4.20 m high wooden wall flanking 6 m wide glass box is disposed. The project had to face two preliminary constraints: a surrounding area burdened by the aesthetic and cultural tradition of the Spanish row-house concept and, on the other hand, the plot’s exposure to solar radiation during the hottest months of the year. The construction is defined by a guide wall and angular concrete wall establishing the diagonal panorama towards the lake. The differentiated composition of horizontal and vertical elements confers a sculptural quality to the protective structure. Arranged behind, an open glass and oak front relates interior with exterior spaces. At different times of the day, multiple situations converge here, in terms of space and light.
