Residential Architecture News - latest additions to this page: Horizontal House, Konstancin, Poland - 21 May 2013 Design: 81WAW.PL Architecture Studio  render : Michal Nowak Two architects from architecture studio 81.WAW.PL designed ground-floor house, which plan is based on letter “L” and has 250 square meters of usable area. House is equipped in everything what family of four would need to live in a comfortable and cozy way. Function was defined as a very legible one. To communicate inside, family members need to walk through a hallway located along a longer building wall. House of Silence, Shiga, Japan - 21 May 2013 Design: FORM + Kouichi Kimura Architects  photo : Kei Nakajima This house is austere and quite impenetrable - the facade materials give it a heavyweight appearance and there are minimal openings. You could say it is an unfriendly building, but inside there are a variety of strong interlocking spaces making for a dynamic introverted architecture. House in Bozen, North Italy - 20 May 2013 Design: monovolume architecture+design  photo © M&H Photostudio The project M2 is classified as a 'Klimahouse A' - an elegant contemporary residence up in the Italian Alps, with generous glazing to the obligatory pool. House in Sa Rapita, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain - 20 May 2013 Architect: CMV architects  photograph from architects The project involves the construction of a detached house with two floors, garage and swimming pool. The living area is located on the ground floor. The main facade has the garage, the entrance and the kitchen area, which includes a laundry room, a pantry and a toilet. The courtyard, the dining area and the staircase leading to the first floor are located in the centre of the house. Haus W, Frankfurt am Main, Germany - 14 May 2013 Design: Ian Shaw Architekten  photo from architect This well crafted cuboid generates spectacular light. The development, constructed out of prefabricated high insulation timber panels and energy-efficient glazing, is articulated as a classic modernist intervention: a box set into a traditional pitched roof atop a standard three-storey house. House by the River, Bosque de los Dinamos, México - 25 Apr 2013 Design: José Alfonso Quiñones Ríos  photo : Erick Reyes The Magdalena River descends from the forest of Los Dinamos, and is the last living river in Mexico City. This location and the proximity to the river give very specific characteristics to the land, despite the fact that it has been overtaken by the city, it still preserves an immediate country environment. Head Road 1815, Cape Town, South Africa - 5 Apr 2013 Design: SAOTA Architects  photo : SAOTA The house includes three storeys accommodating three en-suite guest suites on the ground floor, with a plant area and a staff flatlet at the rear. The first floor is the main living level, with a large living room and dining room opening to a covered and uncovered pool terrace. The kitchen is positioned to enjoy views through the glass roof towards Lion’s Head. The entrance hall is accessed by gentle steps from Head Road preceded by a glass-roofed external lobby space. The second floor accommodates the master bedroom, dressing room and a light-filled en-suite with views over the pool below. House in Odemira, Portugal - 31 Jan 2013 Design: Vitor Vilhena Architects  photograph © Joao Morgado 1 Feb 2013 - Respecting the site in its entirety, the project is total involvement with the natural surroundings. Was privileged contemplation of the landscape, adapting the volumetry of the house to the natural topography. The extremely careful two volumes have been developed in "L" shape. The client desired a gallery-like concrete-made space where their pleasure of designed furniture stands out. This house reveals itself without clumsy and stimulative feeling in the scenery of old alley, suitably for its name. New House in Cape Town, South Africa - 22 Nov 2012 SAOTA Architects  photo : Adam Letch The clients required a four bedroom home for their young family, the design of which had to encapsulate all the qualities of luxury open-plan living while still providing a homely environment. The practicalities of the site – steepness and town planning restrictions – were key initial drivers in determining the parameters available. The narrow proportion of the property also necessitated the careful consideration of privacy and bedroom accommodation, which is set back from the street or suitably screened. House O, Potsdam-Mittelmark, near Berlin, Germany - 19 Oct 2012 Design: Peter Ruge Architekten  picture © Werner Huthmacher The site lies upon a hill in a beautiful small village in the district Potsdam-Mittelmark in a fantastic scenic situation with breathtaking views over the nearby lake. The surroundings are dominated by a combination of historical and modern mansions. As many of the old large trees on the site should be kept as possible. House in Asamayama, Nagano, Japan - 23 Oct 2012 Design: Kidosaki Architects Studio  photo : 45g Photography Stunning new Japanese house that floats out over a steep slope. The architects describe it like this: "The owner spent quite a few years for found this site, therefore my main concern was to link the beautiful vast sea of trees spread out to Mt. Asama (Asamayama in Japanese) with internal space. First of all, we can enjoy a sea of trees from the approach deck to the entrance. When open the large door to the living room, Mt. Asama and the foot of it spread in picture window frame formed by the deep and low-height eaves. This scenery is the best part of the view". House in Mosman, Sydney Middle Harbourr, NSW, Australia - 5 Oct 2012 Design: ian moore architects  photo : Daniel Mayne This project is located in Mosman on a north facing slope looking across Sydney's Middle Harbour to the Spit Bridge and Clontarf. The site falls away dramatically from a broad and densely landscaped verge on the street frontage, with a high sandstone cliff forming the southern boundary. The house is nestled into this cliff, shielding it from the street, where it appears as a single storey, focusing attention on the magnificent view to the north. House in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - 23 Jul 2012 Architects: a21studĩo  picture : Hiroyuki Oki Established in 2009, a small group of designers wishes to bring their conception of life to the surroundings by architecture. “Every morning, the first thing that I would like to have is drawing first lines in a comfortable and joyful mind. I used to dream of an office-house for not travelling in a frequent traffic-jam and highly polluted place like Hochiminh City. Harold Street Residence, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia - 23 Jul 2012 Architect: Jackson Clements Burrows Pty Ltd Architects  photo : John Gollings The Harold Street Residence is a new two storey dwelling located in a heritage overlay area of Middle Park. The brief called for a new residence for a couple with university age children that would accommodate their evolving family needs. The ground floor provides the primary residence for our clients, engaging both with the street and garden, whilst the upper level provides more flexible living areas and bedrooms for their children, visitors and grandchildren.
