After the demolition of Hotel Russia, the site has remained abandoned for over 6 years. Vladimir Putin proposes to turn this 130 000 sqm area into a multi-functional public park. This challenging project has the potential to become the most significant public space development in Moscow for the recent decades, likely to set a new benchmark for the quality of public space in Russia. Moscow Polytechnic Museum and Educational Centre Design: Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas architects + Speech  image from architect Moscow Polytechnic Museum and Educational Centre - 29 Mar 2013 Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas + Speech have won the prestigious international competition for the design of the "Moscow Polytechnic Museum and Educational Centre" in Moscow which should be realized by 2017. After the historic season of Italian architects, centuries later, an Italian architect returns to realize an important public work in Moscow. "It's one of my most beautiful projects and it is an Italian victory, the museum and educational center must become a milestone and reflect the image of the new generation." Massimiliano Fuksas. Kuntsevo Plaza The Jerde Partnership  image from architect Kuntsevo Plaza Moscow - 30 Jan 2013 This building development – a vibrant new live, work, shopping and entertainment village occupying a full city block – aims to deliver a modern "community gathering place". The pedestrian-oriented center is made up of "geometric buildings" and topped with terraces and undulating glass features. Europe’s Tallest Building 1 Nov 2012 - The Mercury City tower in Moscow is now Europe’s tallest building after overtaking The Shard in London. The mixed office and residential tower has topped out at 338 meters (1,109 feet). Garage Gorky Park Temporary Structures, Moscow, Russia Garage Center for Contemporary Culture exhibition 'Gorky Park: From Melnikov to Ban'  photo © Nikolai Zherkov Garage Gorky Park Temporary Structures - 22 Oct 2012 Garage Center for Contemporary Culture will present a new exhibition entitled Temporary Structures in Gorky Park: From Melnikov to Ban from 20 October to 9 December 2012 in a newly created temporary pavilion in Moscow’s Gorky Park, designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. Showing rare archival drawings –many of which have never been seen before – the exhibition will begin by revealing the profound history of structures created in the park since the site was first developed in 1923, before moving through the Russian avant-garde period to finish with some of the most interesting contemporary unrealized designs created by Russian architects today. Moscow City Agglomeration Competition OMA  image © OMA Moscow City Agglomeration Development - 17 Oct + 27 Apr 2012 At the end of August nine international teams presented their final projects for the draft concept for the development of the Moscow agglomeration to a group of experts and the client, the Moscow Committee for Architecture. At the beginning of September, they were judged by an international jury. They judged proposals for the Moscow agglomeration as a whole, for the new extension of the city and for a new federal government centre to be located in the new extension. Bolshoi Moscow Competition various architects  image from organiser Bolshoi Moscow Competition - 19 Jul 2012 At the end of June, Moscow saw the fourth meeting of 10 international teams of architects, urbanists, transport engineers and other specialists working on a draft concept for the development of the Moscow agglomeration. Half way to the final presentation at the end of August, the teams have passed the stage of research and analysis presented the first outlines of their proposals. Garage Center for Contemporary Culture - new building in Gorky Park, Moscow  image courtesy of OMA Garage Gorky Park Garage Center for Contemporary Culture unveiled concepts for a new building in Gorky Park, designed by Rem Koolhaas’ OMA. A renovation of the famous 1960s Vremena Goda (Seasons of the Year) restaurant, a prefabricated concrete structure that has been derelict for more than two decades. OMA’s design for the 5,400 square meter building includes exhibition galleries on two levels, creative center for children, shop, café, auditorium and offices. OMA is collaborating on the project with the young Russian practice Form Bureau.
