HORNO3: MUSEO DEL ACERO
MONTERREY, MEXICO

Grimshaw's adaptation of one of Monterreys most famous landmarks
the Horno Alto #3, into a museum of steel celebrates the Mexican city's
industrial heritage. Formerly a working blast furnace, the reconceived
building incorporates elements which showcase the most advanced methods
of steel fabrication, including a tessellated steel plate roof and a single-span
helical stair with cantilevering treads.

The museum opened in September 2007 to coincide with the citys hosting
of the International Forum of Cultures. The transformation from industrial
behemoth to museum was celebrated with an opening event where the museum
was officially inaugurated by José Natividad González Parás,
Governor of the state of Nuevo León.
