25 Jul 2011 Chasing Kitsune Melbourne It’s time to reveal Chasing Kitsune - a pop-up Yatai designed by HASSELL From 21 until 31 July, HASSELL has Melburnians hunting for Chasing Kitsune at this month’s State of Design Festival. images from HASSELL Kitsune, a mythical fox in Japanese culture, possesses people and only reveals its true form in shadow or reflection. The fox is cunning and comes out at night, rarely seen. The young designers at HASSELL have used this idea to create their version of a Yatai – a Japanese food truck – that is different to any other. Responding to the ‘design that moves’ theme of this year’s festival, Chasing Kitsune will pop up at various inner city locations. The truck, which appears to be a normal truck by day, adapts to each of its evening locations by revealing its true form. A team from Schiavello fitted out the truck, while branding by Seesaw Design plays a major role in the Chasing Kitsune concept, with glow printing techniques used as a final touch in the reveal. The public will need to follow Chasing Kitsune on Facebook or Twitter to find out its daily location during the 10-day festival. Or, they can download the State of Design Festival iPhone app, which will track Chasing Kitsune's daily location. Teaser images have been posted on Chasing Kitsune’s social media pages in the lead up to the event, creating quite a buzz. Once they ‘find the fox’, guests will be treated to great food – presented by South Yarra’s Mopho and featuring sought-after Melbourne chef, KinSan – and refreshments from Robot Ninja Sake and Asahi.
