HKR Architects: St
Peters Square, Stockport, south Manchester

St Peters Square Manchester : Wellington Street

Scheme description:
£7 million, 49,000 sq ft landmark speculative office building for
HBG Properties on Wellington Road South in Stockport.
On the site of the former Cannon Cinema, the proposed development will
have a prominent frontage onto the main A6, and create a new gateway to
the town centre. Setting a new benchmark for office design in Stockport,
the striking contemporary building is expected to be the first there to
receive an Excellent BREEAM rating.

The building is conceived as a glass pavilion, with the elevation to the
A6 animated by the use of polished stainless vertical steel brise soleil
which provides both the architectural signature of the building
and an appropriate environmental response to this south west facing façade.
Providing four upper floors of prime Grade A office space with a total
net area of 46,000 sq ft, it will form a key part of the Future
Stockport strategy, and the wider £500 million regeneration
of the town. A double-storey reception space faces onto St Peters
Square, creating both a destination business address and an interactive
backdrop to the square itself. On the upper floors the placement of the
primary core allows for maximisation of space and light, and the set-back
top floor creates an aspirational boardroom offering spectacular views
across the regenerating town centre.
