Eco House Bolton - Gary Neville's House Design: Make, Architects House for Gary Neville Make’s first zero carbon house in the North West gets planning approval Make is delighted to announce that Bolton Council has granted their PPS7 House planning permission after Secretary of State Eric Pickles’ decision not to call in the application. As the first zero carbon family home in the North West, the four bedroom, single storey property is deliberately embedded into the Pennine hillside to minimise the impact on the surrounding views and will have a roof of meadow grasses and flora flowing seamlessly over the property and into the surrounding landscape. The client, Gary Neville, said: “I am obviously delighted that the Secretary of State has decided to allow Bolton Council to issue its decision to grant planning permission. After sensibly allowing the dust to settle, my professional team will continue its detailed design work and I can then look forward to building this exciting home.” Stuart Fraser, Partner at Make, said: “We truly believe in this design and are delighted with the Secretary of State’s decision and look forward to delivering this exciting home. The positioning and orientation of the property have been carefully thought about, a ground source heat pump will provide the heating and photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine will generate on-site renewable energy. Building materials will be locally sourced and traditional building methods will be used. “ Make has worked closely with Peter Rolton, a key member of the Government’s advisory panel for renewable and sustainable energy, and the house has already been selected as an exemplar project within the Government’s ‘Planning Performance Agreements for Renewable and Low Carbon Energy Schemes’ programme. The 8,000 sq ft scheme has been designed following close collaboration between the client, Bolton Council and the Government’s design body, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).
