Eric Parry Architects’ new gallery space for Timothy Taylor

The new Timothy Taylor Gallery in Carlos Place, Mayfair, opens its door this week with a show by the renowned post-war American painter, Alex Katz.

Eric Parry has created an ingeniously light and elegant gallery within the shell of a former bank building located just off Grosvenor Square in the Mayfair Conservation Area. The exhibition area occupies 162 square metres at street level and is 4.2 metres high. The space is designed as a neutral backdrop to the art on display and can accommodate very large two- and threedimensional works of art.

The total scheme occupies 615 square metres, including viewing rooms, office space, painting storage, staff facilities and a workshop. Spread over ground and lower ground floors, the public and private areas are linked by a solid oak staircase.

This is the second gallery to be designed by Eric Parry Architects for the Timothy Taylor Gallery.
