Three Sisters Dropped

News Update 12 Oct 2009

Proposal rejected by UK Secretary of State John Denham

Three Sisters London

Surprisingly the scheme is criticised not just for its (widley discussed) effect on key London views but for the actual appearance of the three towers and also for the way they interrelate to each other.

Three Sisters Rejected by Mayor

Halted Jul 2008 by London Mayor Boris Johnson

Three tower blocks by architects Allies & Morrison: two office buildings and a residential tower on a site that was to be cleared by demolishing the 'unloved' Elizabeth House office block. Originally won in competition.

Location: near the London Eye at Waterloo
Approx. cost: £1bn
Developer: P&O with Morgan Stanley Real Estate
Total apartments: 274
Nicknamed : Three Ugly Sisters

Lambeth's planning committee were set to approve the development but Boris Johnson vetoed it in order to protect views across the city. The Public Inquiry took place in Apr 2009.

Heights:
Office tower 1 : 27 storeys
Office tower 2 : 22 storeys
Residential tower : 33 storeys

Key Buildings close by: Royal Festival Hall, London County Hall, Waterloo Station

Also shortlisted for this development were Make, Foreign Office and KPF
The competition followed the decision to abandon RHWL's proposal for the site.
