Urban Design Critique
19 June
A number of high-profile architects and urban thinkers are to take part in an ‘Urban Design Critique’ which looks at how to enhance the neglected piece of central London’s public realm at Waterloo Place in St James. Many feel the landmark has become underused and unloved in recent years and the critique aims to explore ways on how to reform the southern end of Regent Street into a destination to visit.

The event has been organised by developer Roger Zogolovitch of Solid Space and Lee Mallett of Urbik along with RIBA London. Proposals on how to restore the area will be put forward by a team of established architects from some of London’s most exciting practices: AEDAS, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), AOC (Agents of Change), ATKINS, 5th Studio and Studio Weave. Their ideas will be then be critiqued by leading designers and architects Will Alsop, and chairman of CABE, Paul Finch.

The critique is open to the public and supported by Westminster Council and the Crown Estate, the major landowner in the area.

English Heritage Exhibition: ‘Lost London: 1870 – 1945
19 Jun – 4 Jul
English Heritage will exhibit a series of photographs from the book Lost London 1870 -1945 which lifts the veil on the capital’s past, providing a haunting glimpse of long-forgotten buildings and people. The exhibition will showcase some of the best images from the English Heritage archive of early London photographs (inherited from the former London County Council).

Originally taken to provide a record of those districts of London marked for demolition, the photographs reveal not the great architectural set- pieces of the capital but the ordinary buildings, streets and signs that formed the backdrop of the daily lives of the city’s inhabitants Lost London 1870-1945 was authored by Philip Davies, English Heritage’s Planning and Development Director for London and Southeast England. Stunning works of art in their own right, the images will be displayed throughout the hotel lobby during the festival. ‘Lost London: 1870-1945’ by Philip Davies £29.99

T.M.Lewin Heritage and Shirt Doctors
21 June – 25 June: (Shirt Doctors 12 – 3pm)
T.M.Lewin, the pioneers of London’s bespoke tailored shirt will display their Heritage collection on classic dressed mannequins and exhibit traditional brand images within the restaurant. The shirt manufacturers were established in 1898 with their first store in Jermyn Street. They will have T.M.Lewin ‘Shirt Doctor’s’ on site to offer advice on tailoring and the measuring of men’s collars for the perfect fit.

Heritage Menu
19 Jun – 4 Jul
The Sofitel London St James will take part in the festival celebrations by creating a ‘Heritage Menu’ for guests and visitors. Inspired by Albert Roux and Executive Chef, Vincent Menager, the menu will be transformed from the traditional French classic cuisine and feature historic British favourites like Fish and Chips, Cottage Pie, Potted Shrimps Summer Pudding and Eaton Mess. The menu will be available in the Brasserie Roux from June 19 and remain for the duration of the festival.

All events take place at Sofitel St James hotel: 6 Waterloo Place, London SW1Y 4AN.
