Hannah Martin London choses DuPont™ Corian® for Selfridges debut

Design: architect Alex Cochrane

August 2014 – The highly respected British brand Hannah Martin London has unveiled a fascinating jewellery display system made from DuPont™ Corian® in the recently opened Designer West area at Selfridges, home to the new avante garde in fashion for men. The three thousand square foot space within the central atrium of the store has been designed by architect Alex Cochrane as part of a renewed vision for the curation of international menswear labels at Selfridges.

The scheme is anchored by three sculptural plinths, dividing the overall space into two sides of equal proportions. The floor echoes the physicality of the plinths with large slabs of geometrically cut stone, while clever use of mirrors creates intriguing optical effects.

Eleven custom-built bell jars run through the space, created to house an ongoing series of exclusive installations. For the launch of the new department, a unique showcase of the work of British brand Hannah Martin London features within the bell jars. Signature geometric landscapes of obelisk shapes and pyramid forms designed by Hannah and made with DuPont™ Corian® are enclosed within each glass jar.

The structures display a carefully-chosen edit of Hannah’s distinctive work, including sterling silver cufflinks which appear to pierce through the shirt’s cuff, anthracite triangle letter-openers and other sculptural pieces that are icons of Hannah’s career to date.

Hannah Martin comments: “When Selfridges invited me to create something ‘special’ for the launch of this new space, I jumped at the chance. Any single shape that I could possibly imagine in Sterling Silver or 18 carat gold can be always be recreated into one material that I love to use – Corian®. I am always excited to work in this amazing material as its potential is virtually limitless.”

Hannah Martin’s work is as widely recognised for its masculine elegance as for its architectural references and sculptural forms. The shapes created with Corian® celebrate these fundamental values, using the colours Glacier White and the new ultra jet black Deep Nocturne, which is made with innovative DeepColour™ Technology.

DuPont™ Corian® is a high-tech solid surface with a vast and inspiring range of applications. Elegant, versatile, durable and renewable, DuPont™ Corian® offers genuine longevity and confidence in performance. Available in over 80 colours, it can be shaped into virtually any conceivable design and is joined seamlessly to create sleek, strong, hygienic and easy-care surfaces. DuPont™ Corian® can be CNC decorated and digitally printed, adapts beautifully to embedded technology and, in certain colours, offers an ethereal translucency, making it the ideal choice for creative retail design.

The Designer West space at Selfridges includes twelve of the new labels being introduced to the store this season. The new high-fashion destination is the latest compartment to be unveiled as part of the store’s ‘Menswear Masterplan’ – a multi-million pound redevelopment strategy, creating unique and world-class new environments for men to shop in.
