Consideration of urban design issues enabled 30% extra space to be generated in the remodelling and extension of a 1960s office tower for house builder St George. It is now an award-winning apartment building with restaurant and riverside terrace that adds value to the location.

Re-using and re-cladding the retained tower’s structure and adding a new ‘prow’ have created a sustainable, more valuable building and a vibrant piece of Putney. Terracotta cladding references nearby Putney High Street’s Victorian red brick while the stepped upper terraces were created by removing some of the existing structure. Although this reduced the floor space of the original building, it improved its profile and added value to the penthouse apartments which now feature terraces. A Saturday farmers’ market occupies the popular public space.
