11 Aug 2012 One Poland Street Refurbishment One Poland Street - Commercial Refurbishment Completed Design: TateHindle, Architects Project Description One Poland Street was originally developed in 1902 for The Albion Motor Car Company as offices, working garages and warehousing. The building is of ‘architectural merit’ and sits within the Soho Conservation area. The Client presented the challenge to design a refurbishment which would rejuvenate the building through a balance of old and new and attract world class media and advertising brands particularly common to the Soho vicinity. images : Philip Vile The existing building, although bursting with character, suffered from a poor layout, poor access and lack of modern office facilities. Our proposals aimed to enhance its existing unique character and improve the arrangement to present high quality, contemporary office space. The redevelopment included the demolition and rebuilding of the rear of the building, infilling of lightwells, a new core to the north, fire stairs to the south and an additional 4th floor and terrace. The building is, in essence, recycled and exceeded a BREEAM Very Good rating. This was achieved by refurbishing the fabric with efficient air tightness, reducing heat loss and using recycled, sustainable materials.
