Allies and Morrison have won a limited competition, run by Mace Construction, which included entries from Fielden Clegg Bradley, Fielden Mawson and HOK, to remodel the Old Home Office Courtyard of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office main building in Whitehall.
Their proposal, a new five-storey pavilion that also forms the support for the glazed enclosure of the courtyard, will provide a cafe, meeting places and a new focus for the organisation.
It will also allow the complete restoration of the original courtyard facades. The project includes the refurbishment of the associated office space and, starting on site in September of this year, will be complete by end of 2010. Consultants also appointed include Ramboll Whitbybird, Gleeds, Speirs & Major and Mach Acoustics.
