Finsbury Circus is a park in the Coleman Street Ward of the City of London, England. The 2.2 hectares park is the largest public open space within the City’s boundaries.

The circus was created in 1812 on the site of the former Lower Moorfields. The secod part of the title reflects the elliptical shape of the space, similar to circuses in ancient Rome. The long axis runs west-east.

Stirling Prize Nominee 2009
The 5 Aldermanbury Square project does much to improve the urban realm of the City of London. It evolved to allow the creation of a new public space connecting Wood Street and Aldermanbury Square to the upper level of the Barbican High Walk.

The new 18-storey building sits above this public space and consists of two staggered wings that are divided by a receding central section. The two entrances are linked by a triple height ground floor reception, with a sloping floor which drops a metre from north to south.

St Alban’s was a church in Wood Street, City of London. It was dedicated to Saint Alban. Of medieval origin, it was rebuilt in 1634, destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666, and rebuilt, this time to a Gothic design by Sir Christopher Wren. It was severely damaged by bombing during the Second World War and the ruins cleared, leaving only the tower. St Alban’s church Wood Street.

1 Coleman Street is an oval nine storey building occupying a rare island site in the City, close to the Guildhall. Despite the constraints of the St Paul’s Heights Code, the site has nevertheless produced 180,000 sq ft of space. Stanhope has developed the building to shell and core for Legal & General, who will undertake the fit-out and move its headquarters and 800 staff there. One floor will be sub-let.
