Lewisham Housing - Sustainable Building

335-337 Bromley Road, London, England, UK

5 Aug 2008

ALLIES AND MORRISON DESIGN SUSTAINABLE HOUSING, BROMLEY ROAD, LEWISHAM

Permission has been granted on appeal for a major residential development, including some local retail space, at 335-337 Bromley Road, Lewisham.

The sheltered courtyard elevations have rendered elevations

Designed by Allies and Morrison for Overstrand Investments Ltd, the scheme of approx 7000 gross m2 comprises of 98 private and 43 affordable residential units. All units comply with the Lifetime Homes standard and 10% are specifically designed for wheelchair access. A convenience store and café / restaurant unit on the Bromley Road frontage will create active frontages to the scheme and contribute to the infrastructure of the wider area.

The brick clad buildings vary in height from three to nine stories to enclose the rendered facades of an open courtyard which provides new pedestrian links from Bromley Road and Whitefoot Lane to the neighbourhood health centre as well as communal amenity space for the future tenants of the accommodation.

Most significantly, the scheme is designed to meets the London Plan renewables targets and both the London Borough of Lewisham and GLA affordable housing targets with the provision of 450m2 of roof mounted photovoltaic panels working alongside a gas fired mini CHP. A Green Travel Plan commitment means the development will have a car club using dual fuel vehicle based on site to encourage people to give up car ownership.

Allies and Morrison are working on a number of residential projects, including current developments in St Andrews Bow in East London, Woolwich Arsenal, as well as the ambitious project to convert the existing Highbury stadium at Arsenal FC and adjoining land into residential development.
