Ecobuild 2009 London, UK : Architecture Information

Event : Sustainable Design, Construction + Built Environment

24 Feb 2009

Atkins to speak at Ecobuild 2009

Atkins is taking a leading role at this year’s Ecobuild, the world’s biggest event dedicated to sustainable design, construction and the built environment. Attended by the most influential and highly-regarded figures from across the industry, Atkins will have six of its experts speaking at the event.

DIFC Lighthouse

Throughout the day, panel discussions will take place in the main hall, tackling the most pressing issues for the sector and putting sustainability at the core of the construction industry. In addition to the panels, there will be over 100 seminars covering topics such as water rise, urban planning & public realm and the road to zero carbon.

Tony Iles, head of environmental management, technology and audit at Atkins, will take part in a panel discussion to explore how sustainability can be achievable in a downturn. He commented: “It is essential that the economic downturn doesn’t become an excuse to delay addressing the issue of carbon in the construction sector. We need urgent action and there’s no room for manoeuvre. Ecobuild is a very good opportunity for us, as an industry, to show leadership and unity in achieving a common goal.”

Mike Woolgar, Atkins director of water management and business analysis, will look at managing water in a changing climate, while addressing the implications of the imminent flooding bill and the findings of the Pitt report.

Sean Lockie, head of sustainability at Faithful+Gould, part of the Atkins group, will talk about how can heating and cooling systems be improved and buildings managed better to reduce their carbon footprint and save money.

Another three Atkins experts will take part in seminars, which will have an emphasis on delivering practical and applied information, and will be supported by case studies, analysis, and examples of best practice.

Atkins’ contribution to Ecobuild is part of the company’s journey towards Carbon Critical Design. Atkins is helping lead the industry to make reduction of carbon the central priority for all capital projects, engaging with clients, industry and government to help the sector steer a course with a sustainable future.

Attracting over 30,000 people from across the industry, Ecobuild is free to attend for registered visitors. The event is taking place from 3 – 5 March at London’s Earl’s Court.
