A project for the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery,
part of University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and the Institute
of Neurology at 33 Queen Square, London, has won the Judges Special
Award in the Best Hospital Design category at the recent Building
Better Healthcare Awards amidst intense competition. Designed by Devereux
Architects, with the front addressing Queen Square by Allies and Morrison,
the project was recognised by the judges for its importance in the
urban context. In particular, it received special praise for the design
of the elegant stone and glass façade to the square.
The project consists of a narrow infill building forming a physical
link between the Queen Mary Wing of the National Hospital for Neurology
and Neurosurgery and the recently refurbished Royal London Homeopathic
Hospital also designed by Devereux Architects.
This Queen Square project was the first collaboration between Devereux
Architects and Allies and Morrison. Together the practices have been
appointed to design the new £41m clinical research facility
for King's College London (KCL) at Denmark Hill in South East London.

For Devereux Architects this is one of the most recent projects for
these two clients for whom they have worked for 20 years.
