URBAN SPLASH WORKS WITH TOP ARCHITECTS ON TRIBECA
14 Feb 2008
Award winning property developer Urban Splash has teamed up with four
world class architects to create Tribeca, a whole new place of homes,
offices, shops and public space in Liverpool city centre.

The four architects are:
shedkm based in Liverpool
Alison Brooks Architects based in London
querkraft, Vienna, Austria
Riches Hawley Mikhail, London
Weve brought together four very exciting architects to work
with us on Tribeca, said Simon Humphreys, director of development,
Urban Splash. These architects represent some of the best emerging
practices in Europe and we think their designs complement one another
to create what we hope will be a great new place in Liverpool city centre.
shedkm
shedkm and Urban Splash have worked on many projects together including
Matchworks on Speke Road, Garston; Vanilla Factory and Tea Factory in
the Ropewalks; the Collegiate on Shaw Street; Moho in Manchester and Fort
Dunlop in Birmingham all of which have received major awards for their
design and innovation.
Tribeca is home turf for shedkm and they are the masterplan architects
for Tribeca. They have also designed two new apartment buildings for the
project. The two buildings will contain 230 studio, one and two bedroom
apartments all with full height glazing and balconies together with a
host of business spaces at ground floor level. The building that fronts
on to Great George Street will be built as part of the first phase of
the scheme.

Alison Brooks Architects
Alison Brooks Architects (ABA) is recognised as one of Britains
leading new generation architects. ABAs design approach
is very site and client specific, drawing from the broader cultural context
of each project to produce highly inventive and unique buildings.
Since it was founded in 1996 the practice has won or been a finalist in
fourteen architectural competitions and has won fifteen awards for architectural
quality. After receiving the Overall Winner Award at the 2006 Housing
Design Awards for the Accordia development in Cambridge, ABA has broadened
its portfolio to include larger scale housing and urban design. In 2007
the practice won an English Partnerships competition to design a 250 unit
mixed-use development for West End One Central Milton Keynes. In addition
to a growing housing portfolio the practice is undertaking major arts
projects, winning the 2005 national competition to design the Folkestone
Performing Arts and Business Centre. Currently on site, it will form a
cornerstone in Folkestone's arts led regeneration programme.
In 2007 ABA won the RIBA Manser Medal for the Salt House in Essex, described
by the Guardians Architecture critic Jonathan Glancey as one
of the best new houses in Britain today
ABA has designed three tall buildings at Tribeca which will act as landmarks
at the corner of Great George Street and St James Street. The buildings
will be a combination of new homes and commercial space.

querkraft
Founded in 1998 the three partners at Querkraft based in Vienna Austria
were named Young Architects of the Year in 2004 by architectural magazine
BD.
querkraft literally translated means the art of lateral thinking and this
is at the heart of their creative work. Defining architecture as poetic,
inspiring and efficient Querkraft has achieved great success in Europe
with projects including the dra-house and an Adidas brand centre in Germany.
Tribeca is the first project in the UK for Querkraft and they have designed
a series of buildings which will include apartments, hotel, office and
retail space together with a new public square. The querkraft buildings
will part of the 2nd phase of building work for Tribeca.
