RICS PRO Kobe, Japan : Architecture Information

RICS PRO, Rokko Island, Kobe 2006 Tadashi Suga Architect Office This is a new facility of the large-scale car driving school built on an artificial Rokko island in Kobe. The site is located on an area of transportation and industry where heavy-duty trucks busily move around and the road and buildings around there are large enough to overwhelm people there. However, the required apace is only 600sqm and a extremely small volume around there. For facilities to be built on this specific surroundings, I thought that such an image of building covered by solid shell would be most suitable considering the surrounding area. That is a building like the one which is placed onthe nook of the site, with outer skin formed by folding a flat plain inward. Outer skins are iron plate which are processed by phosphoric acid, and their edges are cut sharp. Floor plan has extremely simple style, dividing into two sections south and north , and group of closed classroom is located in south side and on north side, an atrium space, an open hall and the waiting room are located. The tip of outer skin in shape of reverse triangle on north side is jutting out about 15meter from the base which forms a space truss of triangle pyramid and jointing its head to the half south rigid flame , the structure is to be completed. The owner desclibed that its structure is like a ship, and it has such an atmosphere as “the black ship” on the flat land near the sea will fly up into sky someday from its position.
