KPF COMMISSIONED FOR ZIRAAT BANK HEADQUARTERS IN ISTANBUL

Firm’s first project in Turkey is head office for country’s leading bank and Cornerstone of the new Istanbul International Financial Centre

New York, NY – April 22, 2013 – International architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) is pleased to announce that, as its first project in Turkey, it has been commissioned to design the new headquarters for the country’s largest and oldest financial institution, Ziraat Bank (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Ziraat Bankası), in the heart of Istanbul.

According to KPF Managing Principal Paul Katz, “We’re very excited to have won the commission for Ziraat Bank, and to expand KPF’s portfolio in the region. Few cities, if any, match Istanbul in cultural history, diversity, and geographical prominence. At the convergence of Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Istanbul has been one of the world’s foremost cultural and commercial capitals for centuries. With a flourishing economy and record levels of foreign investment, the city is once again becoming one of the world’s top financial centers.”

A key to Turkey’s goal to expand its economy to become one of world’s largest by 2023 (as stated by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan), is the new Istanbul International Financial Centre (IIFC). The two-tower, 200,000-square meter Ziraat Bank headquarters will be the centerpiece of this new development, exemplifying Istanbul’s establishment as a global financial center, as well as Ziraat Bank’s position as the country’s leading bank.

The new complex will enable Ziraat Bank to continue its mission through an iconic and sustainable facility whose architectural language will draw on the prolific cultural heritage of one of the world’s oldest and most diverse cities, once the capital of three different empires.

KPF was commissioned for the project, in part, based on the firm’s extensive experience designing for major financial services companies in global cities, including AIG, BlackRock, DZ Bank, Ernst & Young, Goldman Sachs, KPMG, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Prudential, Royal Bank of Canada, Standard Chartered, Washington Mutual and the World Bank.
