Trinity College Dublin
The site in Fellows Square is perched on the end of the Arts Block, the building closes the square and frames views to Front Square over the1937 Reading Room. The building is seen as a powerhouse of ideas; the honeycomb granite surface is crisp and detailed to create deep window embrasures in the manner of a tower house. Internally walls are lined with walnut to create seats, desks and bookshelves.

The brief was to provide additional multifunctional living space and bedroom accommodation not provided for within the original house. The existing two-storey return was at a scale not befitting such a large house with cramped internal dimensions making the spaces unusable. The design creates a rear return more suitable in scale and playful in nature with an orthogonal emphasis reflecting that of the original terrace.

Hotel Europa Spa
This building is located just outside Killarney town in Co Kerry within an area of Prime Special Amenity. The site is on an inclined landscape overlooking “Loch Lein”, the largest of the Killarney lakes with the Mc Guillycuddy Reeks mountain range forming the backdrop to the view. The nearby Black Valley and Gap of Dunloe, where huge glacial boulders emerge from the hills, define the local landscape. Originally built in 1962, the hotel has been substantially extended over the decades in and is now configured as a south-facing “U”-shaped building orientated towards the lake.

Plastic House
The project begins with removal – of the existing extension, internal walls and earth – bringing the entire house to lower ground-floor level. This opens the volume of the house as a double-height vessel, full of light. A cruciform object is inserted; a piece of architectural furniture which spreads tree-like from a concentrated base. Services such as kitchen, toilet, storage and stairwell are housed within this trunk – providing for living and dining in the spaces around it.
