The challenge in the competition was to bring the architectural characteristics of Munich into this new and modern part of the city. schmidt hammer lassen architects' design concept has its origin in three themes: the analysis of the historical city with its arches, vaults and arcades; a close relation to the masterplan with its boulevards, plazas and narrow streets; and a focus on human beings as well as the overall experience offered to the hotel guests. We were inspired by the imagery of the harbour at sunset with its shimmering golden glow, its complex textures, colours and activity,” said Stephen Jones, Woods Bagot’s Regional Managing Principal Asia. Achieving a fine balance between boldness and sophistication, the fit-out is comprised of rich textures, reflecting the deepness of the harbour’s sunset through vibrant orange, dark red, bronze and champagne colours, throughout the myriad of spaces. Justice Mill Lane, Aberdeen, Scotland Richard Murphy Architects photo : Paul Zanre Justice Mill Lane Hotel Building The hotel design by the architects plays a major part in the redevelopment of an area in the western end of Aberdeen’s city centre. Formerly home to a disused petrol station and warehouse and then for some time a cleared site, the completed project comprises grade ‘A’ commercial office space, a high quality business hotel and underground car parking. The developer inherited a planning consent mostly for housing which had already achieved a very high plot ratio. The aim of the architects was to build two substantial adjacent buildings, each having a significant urban presence.
