Florence High Speed Railway Station building by Foster + Partners Architects

As part of the creation of a new high-speed rail network, the Italian Government has instituted a major programme of station restructuring, including the creation of many new stations. The design for Florence Station provides a new facility that will connect with the city’s existing Santa Maria Novella station via a new tramline.

Located at the heart of the city’s historic centre, this is Arup’s largest and most complex transport building project in Italy. It will be a crucial interchange node as well as a vital new hub for Florence, and has attracted attention for its iconic value and relationship with its prestigious surroundings.
