Architecture of Factories
We've selected what we feel are the key examples of Factory Architecture. We aim to include Factory buildings / projects that are either of top quality or interesting, or ideally both.
We cover completed Factory Buildings, new building designs and architectural exhibitions on factories. The focus is on contemporary buildings but information on traditional buildings is also welcome.

Factory Building Iran - 8 Apr 2013
In order to achieve the goal the volume design concept, including all components of the factory such as the enclosure wall, the security building, the official building, the presentation part, the manufacture building and the landscape of the project. In order to achieve an integrated organization, we used a spatial diagram, which defined both the inside and outside of the project simultaneously. This diagram is influenced by the building’s site, and also the existing status of building and additional sections.

It is not often that a firm gets a chance do a makeover of one of their masterpieces. This is a project that has rescued an important example of mid-century modernism and answers questions about how best and most economically we can re-use under-performing and outmoded structures, rather than building from scratch.

Turkish Textile Factory Building
Shortlisted in 2010 Aga Khan Awards for Architecture.
For the design of the this textile factory building, effective inputs were the technical descriptions of the cyclic relations of these types of productions, the limited size of the area, and the constraints of service and main road connection possibilities and those of the local production techniques.
The administrative section, which commonly is visually detached from the production building through the use of different surface languages, due to the conventional approach to such facilities, was more directly associated with production in this project and thus, instead of different buildings a large mass took shape.

Wooden Toy Factory Building
The project was to build a Wooden Toy Factory on an abandoned Rubber estate, by a joint venture between a Norwegian investor and a Sri Lankan partner, with the toy products expected to be exported to the Nordic and Scandinavian Countries. Norwegian client was to close down his wooden toy manufacturing facility in Czechoslovakia due to high labor cost in Europe and relocate the machinery and equipment to Sri Lanka, taking advantage of the tax concessions and investment incentives provided by the Sri Lankan Board of Investment, and Sri Lankan competitive labor market.

RPL Factory Building
This project was to design a Canteen, Recreation and Restroom building for Royal Porcelain Factory in Horana in a newly acquired six (06) perch block of land adjoining the Factory Premises. The Building was designed capturing the architectural idiom of the Factory building itself with a monitor roof in the centre. Due to space constraints the building was to be two leveled. The resultant section designed with a monitor roof in the centre enabled the restrooms and recreation room to be located in the mezzanine level overlooking partly double height canteen area.
