"Exeter’s innovative city centre redevelopment is the latest in a series of Chapman
Taylor projects transforming the face of Britain’s cities and towns.
The regeneration of 5.25 hectares of Exeter’s historic city centre completes in
September 2007 with the opening of the new £235 million Princesshay development.

Princesshay

Chapman Taylor, the design architects and responsible for the city centre’s masterplan together with Turley Associates, has created a distinctive environment to reinforce Exeter’s position as one of Britain’s greatest architectural jewels.

Princesshay shopping centre

The firm’s team, led by Adrian Griffiths, has produced a vibrant and modern city centre full of open space, enhancing the environment around historic features such as the City Wall and opening up new views of the famous Cathedral. Formerly an outdated 1950s shopping precinct, Princesshay is now a focal point for the city, with a mix of residential and retail space and large pedestrianised areas ideal for pavement cafés and sites for many of the city’s festival events. The traditional ‘service yard area’, which detracts from the appearance of many of today’s towns and cities is now underground, so more space is left on the surface for people and businesses."
