Design: AR Design Studio

Glass House England - 15 May 2013
It is not every day that a body is found buried on your building site, but on a summer’s morning in 2012 this is exactly what happened while builders were laying foundations for RIBA award-winning architects AR Design Studio’s latest project. By 6pm they had found another 2. After a period of intense excavation, it was confirmed as a site of Archaeological importance. Once the site was cleared work on the building could continue.

Thompson House - 20 Jan 2013
The Client's brief was for their weekend and holiday house, a compact 1960’s bungalow, to be enlarged, giving more living accommodation and enhancing the views of the sea to the north and west. Maintaining the private/secret nature of the site was also a requirement.

Orchard House - 28 Nov 2012
Orchard House was commissioned as a place in which to live, work and pursue various hobbies. The Client specifically wanted to create a lasting piece of responsive architecture that was not defined by her use of a wheelchair and where the building interacted effortlessly with the landscape.

Country House in Hampshire - 16 Nov 2012
Nigel Anderson at ADAM Architecture has won an appeal for an unusual new ‘NPPF Para 55’ country house in Hampshire. ADAM Architecture is one of the first practices to win planning permission, after appeal, under the new National Planning Policy Framework, paragraph 55 – the replacement to the Planning Policy Statement 7 (PPS7) which allows the building of new country houses that are of ‘exceptional quality or innovative design’.

Abbots Way House - 2 Oct 2012
This latest creation by AR Design Studio, is a stunning five bedroom house. Hurst House, Bourne End, Buckinghamshire
Design: John Pardey Architects in Collaboration with Ström Architects

Buckinghamshire Property
The Hurst House is a new build one-off contemporary house located on the edge of the village of Bourne End. The clients’ brief was to build a very sustainable and contemporary family home that would have the flexibility to successfully cope with changing family conditions as their children grow up and leave the nest. This lead to a house where they can live in one extended space while family bedrooms can be shut down and left on tick-over.
Country House, Easton, Suffolk, south east England
Design: Jerry Tate Architects

Country House in Suffolk - 19 Jul 2012
Jerry Tate Architects has received planning [1] for a 500m2 country house on a greenfield site in Easton, Suffolk. The contemporary design integrates the building and landscape in both form and function. The form of the house is inspired by the shape and structure of a sycamore seed, and the building links physically with the proposed parkland to achieve a co-dependent self-sufficiency in terms of energy, water and food. This functionality is a traditional part of county house design, reinterpreted for 21st Century requirements.
Easton Neston Estate, Northamptonshire, East Midlands, central England
Ptolemy Dean Architects

photograph from RIBA
Easton Neston Estate - 29 Jun 2012
Easton Neston is one of the finest country houses in England, designed by Hawksmoor with an adjacent wing by Wren. Unsympathetic additions and a fire in 2002 meant there was much for the new owners and their architects to address.
North House, Bowden, Lancashire
Roger Stephenson Architects

photo : Daniel Hopkinson
House in Lancashire - 26 Jun 2012
North House is a substantial detached family home in a street of impressive Victorian villas and is an example of how an uncompromisingly contemporary house can sit comfortably and calmly in a conservation area and its existence is due to a sympathetic planning officer who recognized on appeal the sensitivity of the composition.
Dovecote Barn, Great Amwell, Hertfordshire
Nicolas Tye Architects

photograph : Nerida Howard
Hertfordshire House Extension - 28 May 2012
Dovecote Barn is a contemporary rear extension project to a recently converted barn in Great Amwell, Hertfordshire. Our clients proposed to build a rear extension to the barn in order to create more practical living space for the family, by creating some depth to the long and narrow footprint of the existing barn.

North Point House, St John Jersey
MJP Architects

picture from architects
North Point House Jersey - 2 Apr 2012
This MJP designed one-off house, on a rocky promontory in Jersey, has recently obtained a Planning Permit. The site has now been cleared ready for construction. MJP Architects say: “This extraordinary site, wild and windswept, falls precipitously towards the rocky coastline. The house at Wolf’s Caves invites a particular kind of architectural response”.
The house is entered on a cross axis and creates a double height hallway in the centre. The internal circulation is a sequence of staircases over which a continuous rooflight will give a sense of an internal landscape following the topography of the escarpment outside.
Residence near Aldeburgh, Suffolk
Strom Architects

render : Peter Guthrie
House in Suffolk - 13 Dec 2011
The clients’ brief is for a country house - ‘a dream in a wood’, a peaceful place to relax, regenerate, and think of new ideas. The existing site with the pool, its ruins and low walls has a very strong presence, and we wanted to keep this as an important part of the site.
