Campbell & Arnott : Building PR 12.02.04 MONIFIETH MEDICAL CENTRE The new state of the art medical centre on Victoria Street in the grounds of Ashludie Hospital on the previous site of the ambulance station provides new premises for Monifieth Medical Practice, community staff and a pharmacy as well as the Ambulance Service staff accommodation. Monifieth Medical Centre: entry image from Campbell & Arnott The much needed new building has been designed to be easy to use for both staff and patients with a straightforward, user-friendly layout. Internal spaces are light and spacious and all patient areas are at ground floor level for easy access. Externally, the Monifieth Medical Centre is contemporary in its appearance while still respecting it context, employing materials such as smooth render and Douglas Fir timber board cladding. The site has the benefit of many mature trees, and great care has been taken in the design of this building to preserve these. Car parking, is split up amongst the trees in order to lessen its impact on the site. Monifieth Medical Centre: internal image from Campbell & Arnott The new Monifieth medical centre has been designed with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind. Timber frame construction was used and natural daylight and ventilation has been brought into all areas of the building, primarily by the use of a shallow plan, and the introduction of high ceilinged spaces allowing passive stack ventilation. As well as creating a comfortable environment for the building users this will, in conjunction with the use of double glazing and high levels of insulation, ensure that the running costs of the building are kept to a minimum.
