Contemporary House Designs
We have various pages of Contemporary House selections with links to hundreds of individual project pages. We aim to select projects that are either of top quality or interesting or ideally both.
We cover completed homes, new house designs, architectural exhibitions and competitions across the world. Comments on the selection welcome. The focus is on contemporary residential buildings but information on traditional buildings is also welcome.

25 Feb 2013 - The project is solved in a basic shape: a cube of three levels that sits with a half-buried level in the land, in which some orthogonal "parts" were removed to configure the interior space, getting very interesting floated prisms.

Dupli.Casa, Germany

The geometry of the building is based on the footprint of the house that previously was located on the site. Originally built in 1984 and with many extensions and modifications since then, the new building echoes the „family archaeology“ by duplication and rotation. Lifted up, it creates a semi-public space on ground level between two layers of discretion. The skin of the villa performs a sophisticated connection between inside and outside and offers spectacular views onto the old town of Marbach and the German national literature archive on the other side of the Neckar valley.
Fish House, Sjngapore

This modern tropical bungalow encapsulates the essence of living in the hot and humid climate of Singapore by creating open spaces which encourage natural ventilation and offer residents views to the ocean. The main design concept is to create a house which has close relationship with nature and this is achieved by having a swimming-pool linking the house with the landscape and ultimately visual connections with the sea. The idea of connection is reinforced by having the basement level media-room with a u-shaped acrylic window which allows diffuse natural light in and also views out into the pool.
Desert Beach House, Peru

Recent design of a beach house located in the desert coast of Peru.
The house is organized into three levels: the first level contains all service areas, garage and guest rooms; the second level comprises the house principal rooms; and the third one is intended to be the social areas: kitchen, living-room, dining-room, terrace and swimming pool.
Devoto House, Argentina

The lot of 18 x 24 meters between two existing buildings that threatens the project when the problem of isolation and view. For this reason this project is leaning towards its neighbor, creating an introspective posture that creates the views from the inside rather than from the outside. An architecture that generated its own views. The house of 500 m2 was done for a young couple with kids.
Grid House, Brazil

photo from architects
Residential project "Grid House" - Casa Grelha - a house located in the ‘Serra da Mantiqueira’: a small valley was chosen, protected from the winds and close to the forest.
Three main issues have guided the project conception: the demand for a single-story house, the wish to establish a direct relationship with the land and nature and also the need to provide privacy to the members of the family, with the main area located in one single building. Another important factor that we took into consideration was the region’s high humidity levels, which led us to suggest a house above the ground.
