Chinese Architects – Architect Listings

This page contains a selection of major Chinese architects, with links to individual practice pages. We’ve selected what we feel are the key Chinese Architects, but additions are always welcome. The focus is on contemporary Chinese architects but information on traditional architecture studios is also welcome.

Currently the most notable architecture practices are Wang Shu Amateur Architecture Studio, MAD and Studio Pei-Zhu, though Sparch are active in the Far East.

Wang Shu, a 48 year old architect whose architectural practice is based in Hangzhou, The People’s Republic of China, was the recipient of the 2012 Pritzker Architecture Prize.

Jury Chair Lord Palumbo, stated, “Wang Shu’s oeuvre, seen in depth by the jurors during a visit to China, left no doubt that we were witnessing the work of a master; and a unanimous decision to award him the Pritzker Prize for 2012 is one that we feel places him at the same high level of distinction as the other Chinese architect to receive the award, I M Pei.”

I M Pei was China’s most celebrated architect in the 80s and 90s but his architecture practice was based in the USA.
