The Institute of Criminology is one of three new Faculty buildings within Allies and Morrison’s masterplan for Cambridge University’s Sidgwick site for the Arts and Humanities. Enclosing the fourth side of an open garden courtyard, the linear building links the Faculties of Divinity, Law and History, and provides space for teaching, offices, postgraduate research and the renowned criminology library.

The facade is designed as a modular structure made up of pre-cast concrete inserts set within anodised aluminium panels which allow reflected light back into the double-height internal spaces.

Emmanuel College Building in Cambridge
The proposed 7,800 sqm development on the southern boundary of the College site will provide Emmanuel College with generous new spaces for social and communal life, alongside contemporary accommodation and teaching facilities. Capturing the College’s distinct ‘spirit of place’ and the varied character of its collegiate courts, the proposals have been developed around communal spaces, and routes between them, which provide opportunities for interaction.
