Roxbury City Hall Boston : Architecture Information
Contest Selection for Mecanoo in Boston, United States of AmericaDelft, August 25, 2009 Mecanoo short-listed for project in Boston Mecanoo has been selected to create a conceptual design for a 21st century city hall in Roxbury, a neighbourhood of Boston. The project involves designing a new 16,000 square meter municipal office building on the site of the historic Ferdinand Building, which will be integrated into the new project. Boston's Mayor Menino envisions this project, through a collaborative effort with the local community, as a remarkable opportunity to create a modern, flexible and green municipal office facility that will extend improved City services to the neighbourhood, strengthen the public realm and help inaugurate a new era for Roxbury. Mecanoo has teamed up with Sasaki Architects and Arup out of Boston for the project and will compete against nine other teams for new city hall which is estimated at €63,000,000. The winner will be announced on the 25th of September. Mecanoo architecten was founded in Delft in 1984, employing over 90 professionals in the fields of architecture, interior design, urban planning, landscape architecture and architectural engineering. The award winning practice is directed by its original founding architect/director Francine M.J. Houben. With projects all over the world, Mecanoo has a diverse range of project types including libraries, theatres, urban plans, residential neighborhoods, private villas, high rise, university and academic buildings, office buildings and even a chapel. Mecanoo recently submitted the design for a new Rotterdam City Hall as part of an invited design competition and is currently designing the new City Hall and Train Station in Delft. |
