Aedas Designs New Birmingham Landmark
Aedas, working with Birmingham Properties Group, will soon submit for
planning approval on an ambitious mixed-use scheme for a landmark site
at Five Ways, Birmingham, in the United Kingdom.

‘Pentavia’ will be the result of extensive inward investment to revitalise
a declining site in the city, on a key approach route at the west end
of Broad Street. The Birmingham Properties Group development will create
a stunning new gateway to the urban centre.
The key objective for the project was to create a landmark and a new public
space surrounded by a cluster of elegant buildings whilst maximising value
for the site. Pentavia will accommodate 120,000sq ft of Grade A offices,
high-quality residential penthouse apartments, two 200-bed hotels, a block
of student studio accommodation and a new mall comprising restaurants,
cafes and bars, and retail shopping.

Other unique features of the site include a winter garden space and roof
top residents garden. A night lighting scheme will involve light ladders
utilising coloured LED systems illuminating all facades. Landscape improvements,
including new planting and hard landscape features, will improve the public
domain.
The total development area is 502,850sq ft, and the value is approximately
£100 million.

“This is an important scheme for Aedas, BPG, and for the City of Birmingham.
This site is challenging on many levels and it is a positive market sign
that we are instructed to proceed to planning. We are setting a high standard
here,” said Chris Boyce, Associate Director. “Aedas has worked closely
with Birmingham City Council’s planning team to develop a cohesive, refined,
sustainable scheme.”
